Discover the breathtaking landscapes and experience some superb warm weather walking in Spain. Explore vibrant cities and the beautiful hidden landscape of Guadalest, one of the most visited areas of Spain. Be inspired and lifted by Guadalest with its stunning emerald waters and mountain fortification, where only walkers can appreciate the natural stunning beauty, that only your holiday walking in Spain can offer.
Short breaks
Guadalest is of Islamic origin and when it was built, it was considered a highly valuable fortification. In the town centre at the top of the rock is the Saint Joseph castle dating from the 12th Century.
The castle is reached via the pretty Calle de la Pena, lined with whitewashed houses decorated with numerous flower pots. Nearby is the 12th Century city dungeon, the bell tower, the recently restored Orduña House, the parish church and a Moorish fortified building.
The more recently built area of Guadalest, "el Arrabal", is set at the foot of the rocky promontory and is home to many craft and gift shops, museums and restaurants. Tourism has completely transformed the town and its inhabitants are now devoted entirely to tourism. The entire village is now a tourist attraction and houses some of the most interesting museums in the Alicante province.
Activities on the Costa Blanca
You can enjoy a chilled drink whilst admiring the beauty of this ancient fortified village, or if you prefer some exercise, enjoy one of the many walks through and around the fortress. There are so many walks and footpaths around the valley that a full day is needed to take in all the scenery. The area is very popular and we advise that you visit early in the summer months.
The Guadalest valley is bordered by the Aitana, Serrella and Xortà mountains. The river feeds the giant reservoir below the town, supplying water to the nearby coastal towns.
Taking in the natural tranquil surroundings, you will find a river meandering through the national park, with clear chilled water pools, culminating with the majestic Algar waterfalls, ideal for bathing or paddling in the summer months.
